Twitter has now permanently disabled Donald Trump’s account on the social media platform. After further backlash from Trump’s social media posts throughout the week during and following the violence at the US Capitol Building, resulting in 6 deaths, Twitter joins Twitch and Facebook in de-platforming the current president and former-reality TV star in the final days of his presidency.
“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”Twitter
Following a riot at the US Capitol building, Twitch has followed the lead of other notable social media companies and disabled Trump’s account. A statement from Twitch cites the president’s “incendiary rhetoric” as the cause.
“In light of yesterday’s shocking attack on the Capitol, we have disabled President Trump’s Twitch channel,” the statement reads. “Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence.”
